Good morning!  I hope this finds you doing well and not to stir crazy.  It was nice to see the sunshine this weekend and I hope you were able to take advantage of it.  Moving forward, I’m shifting our Sunday Night Memo to Monday Morning.  If you need anything though, I’m here every day.

Friday Car Parade, 4/24 @ 11:45am

If you are itching to get out and see some of your peeps safely from a distance and one of our awesome 8^th graders smile, join the car parade for Catie Barnes on Friday.  Thank you to Mackenzie for organizing and sharing the info.

Here is the email sent out earlier with the details:

One of our Hixson students Catie Barnes in having a hard time with distance learning and not being able to see her teachers and friends. As a way to cheer her up I would like to invite all of the Hixson Family to have a drive by parade to let Catie know we are thinking about her. This will take place next Friday 4/24. We would meet in the parking lot of Dierbergs in Warson Wood (staying in our cars of course) at 11:45 and then leave at 12pm to drive to Catie's house. She lives off of Berry and Madison rd. Please feel free to make signs or decorate your cars (don't feel like you have to though!!) If you could email me back and let me know if you plan to attend that will help me keep track of how many cars we will have. 

Monday Morning Memo, 4/13/2020

Good Morning,

I hope everyone had a great Passover/Easter weekend.  I’m sharing the message I sent to parents on Friday below.  This is a process and layered for everyone.  As I imagine is true for Randy and Lisa, this was not how we imagined our final year at Hixson would be.  With that, once we process through the new reality, grieve what we need to grieve, hopefully we come out of this on the other end with renewed optimism and hope. 

There will be no faculty zoom gathering this week.  There isn’t anything new or major to discuss and with the amount of zooms we are all on, I hope this will be a needed break.  If you need anything, email or text or call at any time. 

Enjoy the week and take care of yourselves.

A Note from the Principal

I lost it yesterday when I received the news. It was inevitable (and absolutely for the best) and I was mentally preparing for it but it didn’t lessen the sting or stop the crack in my heart from growing. So much loss this season across our communities ranging from emotional to physical to financial. As we begin to embrace e-learning for the rest of the year, I know all of my educator friends are overwhelmed, heartbroken and nervous. Parents are overwhelmed, heartbroken and nervous. Our medical and essential frontline communities are exhausted, overwhelmed, heartbroken and nervous. Our world is overwhelmed, heartbroken and nervous. As we gather at this strange and surreal intersection, my hope is that our courage and bravery connect us in a new way as we travel this new journey together.

At the beginning of the year, we asked “How can we help”? The question still applies. Please reach out if you need anything. We are here.

Sunday Night Memo, 4/5/2020

It’s been a sad weekend in my house.  Many of you have heard but our beloved Ambrose teacher, Ms. TC passed away.  TC has been with me on my parenting journey from the first day we stepped foot into Ambrose as a confidant and support in all things Charlotte.  All of her children passed through the halls of Hixson and she lives in one of the homes that backs up to the Hixson property line via the circle drive.  Her passing is heartbreaking and I am without words to adequately express how devastating this loss is not just to our family but also to the school and our community.  This is a terrible reminder of how vulnerable we all are and the continued need to shelter in place.  I hope you are well and safe.

This Tuesday at our next faculty gathering we will be talking about two things-grades for the 4^th quarter and the 4 day school week that begins tomorrow.  For now, if you are able, go ahead and cut the lesson from the weekly plan on Friday.  If you are not able to, don’t worry and continue on.  The link for the zoom meeting is below.  See you soon.
