Sunday Night Memo, 12/15/19

December 15, 2019

I have to admit that I had high hopes for a large snowfall that would keep us home for the next day but looking out the window, it appears we will see each other tomorrow morning. J With that, we are heading into our final week of school before heading out for a well-deserved winter break.  I’m ready!

Just a gentle reminder that by this point in the school year, parents need to be contacted by phone if a student is earning a D or F in class.  I know Aimee and Mike are communicating this in team meetings as well.  It’s important that parents hear from us to support kids and work with us.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

As we wrap up this week and get ready to head out to spend time with our family and friends, I want to thank each of you for the work you do with kids, day in and day out.  You are appreciated!

SAMs Shadow
The shadow will be with me on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I was just reading over the instructions and was asked to share that the shadow will not be engaging with anyone.  Also, if you do not want the shadow around to share a conversation, then just let me know and I’ll ask the shadow to step out.  I have been told to ignore the shadow so I will be trying really hard to do that!

December 8, 2019

Choir Tour, 12/13
Choir students will depart for their annual tour, visiting schools throughout the district.  Students know they are responsible for their missed work.

Math Interviews
If you are interested in serving on the interview committee for math, please let me know.  We will begin interviews in January.

SAMs Shadow
On December 17th and 18th, there will be a person shadowing me all day.  I’m participating in a program for DESE called SAMs.  SAMs is a program designed to provide feedback to principals on use of time throughout the day.  My shadow will be with me both days, collecting data silently and not engaging with me or any of you.  The  data is confidential and our shadow is only collecting data on how I spend my day.  If we have a conversation and you are not comfortable with the shadow being present, the shadow will be asked to respect privacy.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out and share a conversation.  I’m happy to answer any questions.

Change in Spring PT Conferences
There has been an adjustment to our PT conferences for the Spring.  We were informed that on March 10th, Hixson will be a polling place for the Presidential Primary.  We are anticipating a large turnout for the vote and will be changing our conference date.  The new dates are March 9th from 4-8pm and March 11thfrom 1-8.
