Hixson Teachers MEME Challenge

Last Wednesday, our Missouri Central Bus fell into a sinkhole on its morning route.  MO Central called us Friday morning to tell us about it and apologize.  No students were hurt and the incident was captured on a homeowner’s NEST camera and played on the local news. 

The Video MEME Challenge:

1.)     Watch the video link below (you will have to get through the short commercial)

2.)     As a team/department, create a Video MEME to the video footage of the bus falling into the sinkhole.

3.)    Submit your team video to me via email by Friday, March 4 at 5pm.

4.)    Videos will be reviewed and judged by the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and the winning MEME will win a $25 gift card to wherever the team chooses.

5.)    HAVE FUN!

Character Committee, 2/25

The Character Committee will be meeting tomorrow in the library at 3:30pm.  Come join the committee as they map out our character journey and share your voice and ideas.

SLT Meeting Cancelled, 4/4

The SLT meeting scheduled for next week Monday is cancelled.  The committee will meet back again in April.

PT Spring Conferences

Our PT Conferences are approaching fast.  Please make sure you have reached out to parents via phone or for students who are struggling in your class (D or F).  We don’t want the PT Conference to be the first point of contact to discuss student progress.

Meals will be served for both days with dinner on Tuesday and lunch on Wednesday.

POPS Concert, 2/20

Come to the POPS concert on Wednesday and hear our talented kids play some familiar tunes.  It’s been fun listening in on classes and trying to name the tunes.  The concert begins at 7pm in Roberts Gym at the HS. 

Character Committee Mtg, 2/25

The Character Committee will be meeting on Monday, 2/25.  Please join the committee as they begin working on the timeline to roll out our character initiatives.  The meeting will begin at 3:30pm in the Library.

Faculty Mtg, 2/11

Our next faculty meeting is tomorrow and will be led by our Science department.  Please meet in the cafeteria at 3:30pm.

Picture Fundraiser, 2/14

Students will have the opportunity to take their pictures with friends during their lunch period by a professional photographer.  This is also a great opportunity to take a picture with your teammates for just $2.00!

Firenza Pizza Fundraiser, 2/14

Bring your Valentine (or family) to Webster’s newest pizza restaurant, Firenza.  Top off the evening with frozen custard!  From 5-8pm, 20% of all sales will come back to Hixson.  The best part?  NO flyer NEEDED AND you don’t even have to tell them you are with Hixson.  Just come in and enjoy dinner and dessert between 5-8pm.

PD Day, 2/15

The first part of the PD will be sessions you’ve picked to attend.  After lunch, you can work in your CLT/Departments until the end of the day.

Parent Teacher Conferences

At SLT last week, a decision was made to cut the time for the second day.  This year, our conferences will be shortened.  Next year, we will be back to normal, along with the High School.

Times for this year:

March 12^th, 4-8pm

March 13^th, 1-4pm

Meals will be served on both days.

Tomorrow starts our weeklong counselor appreciation celebration.  Shout out to our counselors for taking care of kids, families and teachers in the building.  They are an integral part of supporting all the many layers in a school and we appreciate the heart they give day in and day out!

Family Picture Fundraiser

Jodie Allen from Fresh Art Photography and Bailey Allen’s mom is offering her services and providing a fundraiser to support the Student Leaders trip to Birmingham in April.  Please see the attached flyer if you are interested.  25% of the session fee comes back to Hixson to help kids who need financial assistance attend!  The deadline to book is February 7^th. 

SLT Meeting-2/4

SLT will be meeting tomorrow in the library from 3:30-4:30pm.  This meeting will be important and all the leaders will share what everyone is thinking and make a decision about our Spring PT conference times.

Steger 6^thVisit-2/4

The last 6^th grade team will be visiting tomorrow to make up for the missed days last week. 

7^thGrade Orientation, 2/6

The makeup 7^th grade Orientation will be on Wednesday, 2/6 starting at 6pm until 8 pm. 

Lion’s Choice Fundraiser, 2/7

Stop by Lion’s Choice (Rockhill location) on Thursday for our monthly fundraiser from 4-8pm.  Grab dinner for the whole family and 20% of sales comes back to Hixson.

Faculty Meeting, 2/11

Our next faculty meeting will be led by the Science department, starting at 3:30pm in the cafeteria.

Valentine’s Day Picture Fundraiser, 2/14

Students will have the chance to get their pictures taken professionally with friends, teachers or by themselves for $2.00 during lunch.  This will be a great time for teams and departments to get a professional picture taken too!

District PD Day, 2/15

The next District PD day is 2/15 and will start with an Edcamp session.  After lunch, folks will have time to meet in CLT’s or departments to work until the end of the day, 3:15pm.

Sarah and Grace will be out on Friday for a Character Education Field Trip with Vinnie’s B-Ball team
