PLC Meeting
PLC meetings will be on Monday, 2/26 beginning at 3:30pm. Please connect with your PLC for the location of your meeting.
7th Grade Parent Orientation
Incoming 7th Grade Parent Orientation is Tuesday, 2/27 from 6-8pm. Thank you for all the work put into this annual event as we welcome our new families.
7th Grade Classroom Visits
On Wednesday, 2/28, Sarah, Linda, Aimee and I will be meeting with 7th graders to go over the Course Selection Guide and answer questions. We will be in classrooms for the afternoon to cover the entire grade in one day.
Acapella Tour
On Friday, 3/2, 8th graders will watch a performance from the HS Acapella group in the auditorium. An email will be sent out with the times.
Rock and Roll Bingo-3/2
Rock and Roll Bingo is here! I hope to see many of you Friday night as we enjoy an evening of fun and raising money for our school. It's not to late to join in the fun. See Gail or Dana for more information on how to sign up. Thank you to all the teams for putting together baskets.
Safety
In light of the most recent school shooting in Florida, there have been some folks who have reached out with concerns over our own safety protocols. At this time, the district is working with the WG PD to review our plans and walk through all facilities.
Some students have expressed some fear and anxiety over having their classroom doors open. Please be mindful of this and know that closing the door may relieve some of the anxiety for kids.
The March 14th walk out has been gaining a lot of national attention. Many students and parents have asked if we will participate. At this time, I'm waiting to hear from CO about our plans and how we will proceed. I'll let you know as soon as it is shared.
Outs this Week
Sarah and I will be out on Tuesday, 2/27, for LACE training.
I will be out from 8-12pm on Thursday for Principal's Academy.

Faculty Meeting
Tomorrow, 2/12/18, will be the last session in each of the PD strands. Restorative practices will be in the cafe and Trauma Informed Care will be in the Library.
Hixson Leadership Academy
The students in the leadership academy will be meeting for a training tomorrow from 10:18am-2:30pm. The students will be working on creating and writing transition circle lessons for the incoming Stegar students. They are responsible for all work.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I do not watch football but I do enjoy the commercials, halftime show, game day food and a good cry after watching This is Us. Good luck to whichever team you are rooting for!
Character Committee
This year, we will begin a journey to take a look at the character of our school. The first step will be creating a committee of teachers, parents and students. We need your voice and leadership for this work! If you are interested in serving on this committee, please send me an email. I'll connect with you and give you more information on our first meeting date.
MAP Test Dates
Our MAP test dates for 2018 are:
April 27th: 7/8 grade Math
April 30th: 7/8 grade ELA
May 1st: 8 grade Science
We will meet as a whole family in April for a MAP training faculty meeting led by our counselors.
AP Interviews
Our AP Interviews will begin tomorrow. We will be holding screening interviews starting at 7:40am and continuing throughout the day until 5:00pm. Sarah and Linda will be in the interviews all day so Crystal Dokes will be the substitute counselor for students tomorrow.
The 2nd round will be on 2/13 and the final round will be held on 2/20.
