SLT Meeting
The SLT will meet tomorrow, 1/29 at 3:30pm in the Library Media Center.
MAP 2018
Our MAP testing dates for 2018 are being revised. One of the original dates picked conflicts with a school event. I'll let you know once I confirm with the district and make sure there are no other surprise conflicts with our building calendar.
Schedule
I know there are some questions regarding our schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. I am still in meetings with CO and waiting to hear a decision from them. I hope we will receive an answer soon and will let you know as soon as I hear something. I realize the waiting game and lack of news may create some anxiety. Please come and share a conversation with me if you have any questions and concerns.
Outs this Week
I'll be out tomorrow for another meeting at CO starting at 11:00am. I'll also be out Wednesday morning for a meeting off campus and will return by 11:00am. As always, please email or text if you need anything.
Have a great week.
With gratitude,
Grace

Sunday Night Memo, 1/22/18
January 22, 2018
Staffing
There have been some questions about our staffing requests for the 18-19 school year. I'm still waiting to hear from CO about our staffing requests for the 18-19 school year. I've been in meetings with them and once I learn about our staffing, I'll share it with everyone.
PLC Meeting
PLC's will be meeting on Monday, January 23, 2018.
D's and F's
With the posting of our 1st semester grades, I wanted to send a gentle reminder about communicating with parents when grades start slipping to the D or F range. I know email is usually the way we communicate with parents but please make the initial conversation a phone call. If you are unable to reach a parent that way, please document and then send an email. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
HS Visits
The 8th grade teams will be visiting the HS, one team at a time, beginning Tuesday through Thursday.
Outs this Week
I'll be out on Monday afternoon for a meeting at CO. I'll also be out on Tuesday and Wednesday for a Leadership Academy in Character Education (LACE). Sarah Bodi and I will be participating in this program for the calendar year. As always, I'll have my phone and computer so please text/email if you need anything.
Have a great week.
With gratitude,
Grace

Sunday Night Memo, 1/15/18
January 15, 2018
Happy MLK Day! I hope you had a nice three day weekend with your family and friends, connecting, resting and reflecting. Dr. King's legacy is his courageous leadership, bravery in the face of great adversity and his selflessness to sacrifice his own life in pursuit of equity for all. I am grateful to have such a legacy influence the work we do in schools, especially in these times.
Equity Committee
The Equity Committee is holding its monthly meeting tomorrow night in the Library at the HS. The meeting starts at 5:30pm and they will be reviewing the results of the equity walks throughout the district. Dinner and childcare are provided.
Dr. TKA
By now most of you have met Dr. TKA, who will be our assistant principal for the remainder of the year. Dr. TKA will be stopping in and visiting with those he has not yet had a chance to meet.
Library Media Center
Our library will be closed on Tuesday as the work crew finishes laying down the new carpet. As you all know, the library was flooded last week due to a pipe burst. Please be patient as Gail and the team work to restore our library back to normal.
Hixson Hub and Social Media
The Hixson social media outlets are on a break for the rest of the year. The admin team will work with district technology and the new technology teacher to determine how to move forward with social media. The primary reason for this is because all of the sites require users to be 13 years of age. Students may not post to any of the outlets unless admin has approved. If there are any podcasts, videos etc. from your classroom that you would like to share, please let us know. We can work with the district webmaster to post them to our website so our parents can see what is happening instructionally in the classrooms. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Outs this Week
There is a DLT meeting on Thursday starting at 8:00am. I hope we will be back around noon. As always, if there are any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to text or email.
Have a great week.

Grace

Sunday Night Memo, 1/7/18
January 7, 2018
Welcome back to our first full week! I'm looking forward to pulling up my sleeves for the second leg of our journey and all the amazing things we will do for our kids.
Faculty Meeting
We will meet for our faculty meeting on Monday, 1/8/17. Restorative Practices will meet in the cafeteria and Trauma Informed Care will meet in the Library.
Welcome, Dr. Tom Kulla-Abbott
Dr. TKA will be serving as our interim AP for the remainder of the year. Tom is a retired administrator who brings a wealth of experience from Maplewood Richmond Heights. At MRH he served in a variety of leadership roles across the district. He brings experience and leadership in Restorative Practices, conscious discipline practices, developing teacher teams and so much more. We are excited to welcome him into the Hixson family.
Tomorrow morning, I will introduce him to our family by visiting classrooms throughout the day. We will also stop into each 8th grade classroom to introduce him to the students starting in 1st hour.
MLK Celebration
Please join our community for the 23rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration on Sunday, January 14th. A march from the WG City Hall to Stegar will begin at 4:30pm. Afterwards, there will be a dinner reception at 5:00pm and the Celebration Program will begin at 5:45pm
Outs this Week
I'll be out on Friday from 11-1pm for a meeting off campus.
Aimee will be out on Friday after 12:30pm.
Have a great week.
With gratitude,
Grace
