Monday Memo Week of May 23rd

Essential Information                 

-  As we are approaching summer, I am preparing to spend the summer working on plans for next year.  In order to serve you most effectively as your leader, I am asking for your feedback.  What can we START, STOP, and CONTINUE at HIxson?  I have an anonymous Google Form created to gather your feedback for my work over the summer.  This is not mandatory, however, if you have something to contribute, please take a few minutes to complete the form.

-  FRIDAY morning, please meet in the cafeteria at 8:30 to celebrate our retirees and friends leaving Hixson.




-  Please ensure you send a copy of your SLO data to your evaluator before you check out for the year.

-  SUMMER PD for teams ($15/hr.):

Activity #1:Team Work, 4 hours for new teams
At the convenience of teams- summer 2016        
Quest, Synergy, Innovation, Harmony, Unity, Synthesis
Electives ( 5 hours, curriculum)

Expected Outcome:         
Teams collaborate on curricular needs, assessment, and team planning and PD.
The majority of our teams have changed this year due to multiple retirements.


Activity #2: Common Time Team Planning for members of common time team
Summer planning Wednesday, July 20th, 2016, 6 hours

Expected outcome:
Hixson Middle School will be implementing an innovative Common Time period for 25 weekdays of the 16-17 school year.  The committee needs time for planning the logistical launch and planning professional development to present to the staff in the fall of 2016


Activity #3: Learning Design Team Planning for members of learning design team
Summer planning Thursday July 21, 2016, 6 hours

Expected outcome:
Hixson Middle School continues looking at the learning opportunities offered to students.  Curricular work in rewriting electives curriculum for 17-18 school year to offer semester-long elective classes.  Restructuring our master schedule to more effectively offer students options in their learning.  Involve all stakeholders in the process, parents, students, staff...survey stakeholders prior to the process for input

-  7th grade field trips to art museum this week

Monday Memo Week of May 16th

Essential Information                 

Thank you to our amazing PE department and to all of our teachers and staff for a WONDERFUL Track Day, 2016!  The students had a great time and as always, the teamwork of this staff once again made this an awesome day for our students.  Thank you for your hard work!  We are starting to be able to see the finish line :)  Have a GREAT week!

Good to Know                              

-  HS graduation will be using Hx classrooms on thursday and friday of this week: "Graduation will be using the rooms 100, 101, 106, 108, 110, 112, 114, 207, 208, 209, 210, 211, and 214 at Hixson on Thursday and Friday.  Margaret Skouby and I will be there between 4:30 and 5 pm on Friday.  It would be very helpful for me to have a key to lock and unlock the rooms when graduates and teachers go to and return from the graduation.  A walkie-talkie that would allow me to contact a night custodian in the case of an emergency need would be greatly appreciated."

May 13th Half Day Schedule:
Track Day- morning
Lunch- Dr. Smith will be barbecuing hot dogs for staff!  Dogs, buns, and condiments will be provided. Please sign up here if you would like to bring a side dish or dessert : )
Afternoon start at 1:30
- Common Time presentation from Common Time Team- CT 16-17
- PD on PBIS Tiers II and III implementation for 16-17
*Remainder of the time is yours to use as needed for PLC/team*

Most meetings will be held on an off- Monday afternoon, an occasional morning meeting may be scheduled as well.
